Vacancy Seagrass nursery manager

At the Fieldwork Company we help develop ecological insight via innovative techniques that contribute to ecosystem recovery. We have over a decade of experience in the field of ecosystem restoration, with seagrass being one of the main topics. Mostly zostera marina and zostera noltii, and both intertidal and subtidal. Over the course of these 10 years we have developed the DiS method for seagrass seeding, established a workflow for the winter storage of donor seeds, and have been working on the fundamentals of growing seagrass plants as donor material. We work together with universities, consultancies, and governmental bodies on a national and international level.

We are a team of builders and practical thinkers with field workers, marine ecologists, technicians and innovators who are always looking for new knowledge, improvements and solutions that work! Our staff consists of people from various backgrounds and nationalities and therefore the spoken (and written) languages are English and Dutch. During lunch we become foodies and we love to have an occasional company festivity. The restoration activities are a team effort as well at the company’s workplace in Groningen and the field (mainly Wadden Sea).

For our seagrass-nursery activities we are looking for a person that can take the lead in further development of the nursery. Currently we are in the stage of upscaling and heading towards the first runs of production of donormaterial for restoration projects.

  • You take the lead in optimizing and upscaling seagrass plant production.
  • You are managing internal and external communication of the project goals and outcomes.
  • Collaborating with international partners is a key part of the work
  • Being able to work flexible working hours (sometimes including weekends and travelling abroad)

About you:

  • Proven affinity and experience with growing aquatic plants and/or seagrass
  • Teamplayer skills to operate in a multi-disciplinal team
  • A pro-active and independent work-attitude who is up for the challenge of further developing the nursery
  • A scientific mindset for experimental set-up that considers technical feasibility
  • Fluent in preferably both English and Dutch
  • Driver’s license valid in NL (preferably BE)

We are offering you the possibility to become a part of our dedicated and motivated team, a contract for 32-40 hours a week, and with mutual agreement a permanent contract in the future. Work is carried out both in Groningen and in the field, and we are offering a salary fitting to your knowledge and experience including a 6% pension benefit.
