Seagrass Nursery Internship

We are looking for an enthusiastic intern with a passion for biology and ecology who is eager to explore the world of seagrass. The internship starts from June 2026 and will be based primarily in Lauwersoog and Groningen. The main focus will be on work in our seagrass nursery, but there will also be opportunities to gain experience during fieldwork in the Wadden Sea and the Zeeland marine lakes, as well as to contribute to other ongoing projects.

Responsibilities

During the internship, you will be involved in a range of activities, including:

  • Daily maintenance of the seagrass nursery.
  • Monitoring plant growth and plant health.
  • Monitoring ongoing and new experiments.
  • Supporting fieldwork activities.
  • Optionally developing and carrying out your own research project.

Profile

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is enthusiastic about seagrass and ecosystem restoration.
  • Is currently studying, or has recently completed, a degree in marine biology, ecology, plant sciences, agriculture, or a related field (University of Applied Sciences or university level).
  • Has good English communication skills.
  • Enjoys practical, hands-on work and working outdoors.
  • Preferably holds a category B driving licence and has access to transport to the harbour in Lauwersoog.

Practical information

The internship lasts six months and is for 32 hours per week. The preferred working schedule is Monday to Friday, with one day off per week to be agreed upon in consultation. Alternative working schedules can be discussed if needed.
