Temporary Amphibian Screen Installed in Groningen
10 September 2025
For the fourth year in a row, the fieldwork company was commissioned by the Municipality of Groningen to install temporary fencing aimed at protecting local and legally protected amphibian species near an active construction site.
The fencing—covering approximately 2 kilometres—was installed well in advance of the seasonal migration period, during which the amphibians move from ditches and canals to higher and drier ground to overwinter. Among the species protected by this measure is the pool frog (Pelophylax lessonae), a relatively rare species in the Netherlands.
We are pleased to continue supporting long-term efforts by the Municipality of Groningen to integrate biodiversity protection into infrastructure and urban development projects.
