Testing of Subtidal Seeding Machine

This week our seagrass team visited one of our seagrass restoration sites at Veermansplaat in Lake Grevelingen. It was encouraging to observe that the Zostera marina plants established earlier this year are developing well.

To further explore the potential of seed-based subtidal seagrass restoration, we carried out a seeding experiment and tested prototype #3 of our underwater seeding machine. This prototype is an adaptation of our intertidal seeding model and has been specifically modified for use in subtidal environments.

We were joined by two representatives from ARK Rewilding Netherlands, with whom we visited the seagrass plots established at this site since 2022 and exchanged insights on marine restoration practices. The field visit provided valuable opportunities for discussion and knowledge sharing.
