BUILDING MARRAM-GRASS MIMMICKS
29 January 2018
For a project of Radboud Nijmegen University we have constructed and build life-size mimicks of marramgrass plots on the beach of the island of Schiermonnikoog.
In order to gain insight in the most effective strategy for the plants to distribute themself and colonize in the most effective way, three different setups in two different densities were build in 5 replicates. Broomthread proved to be the best solution for mimicking the plants, so 82 kilometers of it has been cut to length and in bundles of 3 shoots planted in tiny holes that had been pre-cut in the baseplates. The end-result: a row of colourfull patches of marramgrass mimicks.
