RWS: New planting methods for seagrass successful in Lake Grevelingen

In a new article, Rijkswaterstaat shares the results of the 2025 seagrass restoration experiments in the Grevelingen and Veerse Meer. This year, two new planting approaches were tested: planting without anchoring and planting in a circular layout. At suitable locations in the Grevelingen, both methods performed as well as the approaches used in previous years.

The experiments are part of the five-year seagrass restoration project carried out by Rijkswaterstaat together with Witteveen+Bos, Rijksuniversiteit Groningen, The Fieldwork Company and Altenburg & Wymenga. Like in previous years, our team was carrying out this year’s planting campaign, testing the new approaches alongside established methods at several locations in the Grevelingen and Veerse Meer.
