UU Article about Building with Ecosystem Engineers

In a recent article, Utrecht University introduces the Building with Ecosystem Engineers project, a collaboration between the NIOZ, Utrecht University, Bureau Waardenburg, Waddenfonds and The Fieldwork Company exploring new approaches to restoring mussel and oyster reefs in the Wadden Sea.

The article looks at how biodegradable, 3D-printed structures could provide young shellfish with a temporary foundation and protection, before gradually breaking down as the natural reef develops. As part of the project, TFC contributes its 3D-printing facilities and expertise to the development and testing of the structures.
